In a closely contested Mc Carthy cup final played in extremely tough conditions in Annacotty on Wednesday last city school Ardscoil Rís triumphed over Rockwell College on a score line of 15-10.This final was a fitting tribute to the Mc Carthy cups status as the Munster rugby premier schools competition at the under 15 age grade. Both sides were extremely committed from the off and it was Rockwell who took a three point lead early on through a penalty from the boot of Bill Johnston. Ardscoil Ris adapted extremely well to the horrific weather conditions and after a series of close in rucks on the Rockwell line outstanding hooker Jack Sexton forced his way over to give the city school a 5-3 halftime lead. Rockwell college struck the first blow of the second half with a try from Jack Tierney converted by Johnston to give the Tipperary school a10-5 lead. Ardscoil Rís led by captain Jerry Mc Cabe continued to play smart rugby in the conditions and wing forward Conor Cannon drove over from close range to level the game at 10-10 entering the closing stages. Ardscoil Rís through the boot of outhalf Conor Fitzgerald found field position deep in the Rockwell half with Jack Sexton getting over for his second try to give Ardscoil Rís their fourth McCarthy cup title on a scoreline of 15-10.
